GEA carried out a complex site investigation, comprising a mixture of deep boreholes and trial pits, for the latest addition to the London School of Economics new central London campus. The landmark buildings and public square are at the heart of the campus intended to create an identifiable focus. The design, generated by principles of environmental and also social sustainability, has been awarded a BREEAM outstanding rating.

A large proportion of the exploratory work was conducted in public areas between the existing university buildings and were therefore subject to agreement with the local authority and adherence to Section 50 (street works) regulations and licences. Noise mitigation measures were also employed to allow the work to be conducted during normal working hours without causing undue disturbance to the site users.

The project has been awarded both RIBA London & National Awards 2021.
