Joe joined GEA in June 2024 with over three years’ industry experience as a geotechnical engineer, having worked at a geotechnical engineering consultant based in East Anglia. Prior to that, Joe graduated from the University of Portsmouth with a BEng in Engineering Geology and Geotechnics in 2021 after submitting a dissertation on rock mass assessment and slope design in the Scottish highlands.

Joe has been involved in a wide range of ground investigations and assessments across the UK including investigating chalk dissolution features, specification and validation of earthworks, and coal seam investigations. Joe has also been involved in the renewable energy industry by undertaking enabling works in Norfolk for wind turbine power distribution cabling and pile load testing for photovoltaic arrays in Scotland and Anglesey. Joe also offers experience overseeing complex ground investigation options such as cone penetration testing, down-hole pressuremetre testing and nuclear density gauges.

Since joining GEA, Joe has been involved in numerous sites across London and the southeast, with a with a particular focus on preliminary foundation design for high rise residential developments in complex ground conditions. Additionally, he has been involved in subterranean residential developments requiring restricted access drilling, basement impact assessments, and ground movement analyses. Assessment of failure mechanisms and providing remedial options advice for slopes has also formed part of his workload, notably involving Victorian terraced retaining walls in coastal Suffolk and an engineered chalk cutting in Dartford. Joe also has previous experience carrying out ground investigations at highly sensitive sites including SSSI peat wetlands, strategic infrastructure projects, and a number of historic Cambridge University buildings.
