Catherine joined GEA in 2003 after completing her MSc at Portsmouth University. She delivered a wide range of site investigations across southern England and earned Chartered Geologist status in 2007. In 2010, she moved to Sir Robert McAlpine, working on major projects including Elizabeth Tower, York Sports Village, the New American Embassy and Sizewell B. Here, she developed strong expertise in deep basements, piling, earthworks, value engineering and temporary works. In 2013, Catherine co-authored and presented a paper on anomalous ground conditions in the London Basin at the European Soil Mechanics Conference.

After a short stint working in New Zealand, Catherine returned to lead McAlpine’s Geotechnical Team, which won Ground Engineering’s Geotechnical Team of the Year in 2017. In 2025, we warmly welcomed Catherine back to GEA and she is applying her 25 years’ experience to a raft of projects, as well as mentoring on our Chartership programme.

Catherine is also passionate about improving the working environment for all in the built environment and actively advocates for mental health and wellbeing across the industry as well as in her role as our Mental Health First Aider and Wellbeing Lead.
