We are delighted to congratulate our Geo-environmental Engineer, Emma Court, on having a collaborative research paper published in the scientific journal Chemical Geology.
The paper, titled “Common controls on Na and Sr in modern and fossil brachiopod shells: Long-term stability of biomineralisation and use for seawater Sr/Ca reconstruction”, explores whether chemical ratios in fossil brachiopod shells can be used to reconstruct the composition of ancient seawater.
With a strong focus on geochemistry, the research investigates how these fossil shells could provide valuable insights into historical seawater conditions, helping scientists better understand past climate change and tectonic activity.
Although the subject extends beyond GEA’s core geotechnical and geoenvironmental services, it highlights the breadth of scientific knowledge and research interests within our team.
Congratulations to Emma and her fellow researchers on this fantastic achievement!
